BEGINNER OBEDIENCE (for ages 6 months and older) Does your dog make the rules in your household? Tired of taking orders from your dog? Frustrated because of your dog’s unwanted behaviors? Then this class could be just what you need. Designed to teach you the “how-to” of training your dog to walk on a lead, sit, stay, down, stand still for an examination and come when called even when other things are going on. You will also learn how to recognize when your dog is manipulating you (they are masters at this) and how to counteract it. While this class is structured toward teaching the dog to behave at home, out in public and in the company of other dogs, it also acknowledges and addresses individual issues dogs may have such as lack of confidence, aggressive tendencies, immaturity, domineering and boisterous behaviors. In this class you will gain the knowledge and acquire the tools to deal with issues that may arise during the lifetime of the dog. Instead of food, positive progressive training methods are used which build the bond between dog and handler for a satisfying and enduring relationship. Children must be at least 14 years old and parent must be on site.
NOVICE OBEDIENCE Novice Obedience is a continuation of skills presented in the Beginner Obedience Class. Improving off-lead control, increasing distance on the recall and proofing of other exercises (with distractions) are also part of the class. Future competitors start their competitive careers from this class and pet owners continue to gain better control over their dogs. Handler must be at least 14 years old and parent must be on site.
ADVANCED OBEDIENCE Ongoing classes for dogs working at the Open and Utility levels. Skills from the Beginner Open and Utility classes are proofed and polished. Handlers must be at least 14 years old and parent must be on site.
LINDA’S BASIC MANNERS (for ages 6 months and older) We will help you establish a foundation of communication and trust with your dog and teach you how to train your dog to be a courteous member of your household. Initial exercises focus on gaining your dog’s attention, calming/settling down. We will use positive reinforcement training techniques to teach the basic skills needed for a mannerly companion - sit, down, stay, come, wait, polite greetings and walking nicely on-leash. We will discover what your dog is willing to work for and help you apply training to your day-to-day life. Families are welcome. Children who want to be the primary trainer must be 12 years old and a parent must be on site.
LINDA’S ADVANCED BEGINNER This class is for graduates of Basic Manners or equivalent. This class will enhance the skills your dog has learned (more challenging come and stay work with distractions) and teach new skills. A clicker will be introduced as a training tool; as we teach your dog formal heel, go to a place, a moving wait, leave it and more. The goal will be to use less leash to control, gaining more verbal control - especially in public places.
LINDA’S RALLY CLASS This class will have students begin working on the skills necessary to compete in American Kennel Club sponsored Rally Trials.
Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler complete a course that has been designed by the rally judge. The dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a course of designated stations (10-20, depending on the level). Each of these stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. Rally promotes fun and enjoyment for dogs at all levels of competition.
This class is for students who have completed Linda’s Advanced Beginner curriculum or equivalent. The student must have a foundation in and understanding of using positive reinforcement as a training technique.
LINDA’S COMPETITION RALLY This ongoing competitive rally class will introduce the Advanced and Excellent level skills needed to compete at an AKC Rally trial. You will be able to practice specific exercises and practice courses while you develop your handling skills. The handler needs to have control of their dog when heeling off leash. The student must have a foundation in and understanding of using positive reinforcement as a training technique. (This course requires permission from the instructor).
